2 open vacancies: PhD Candidate and/or Junior Engineer for EU and Industrial Research Projects in the field of Hydropower

We are looking for two enthusiastic PhD candidates and/or junior engineers that would like to join our team.
Join our team at CDIF-UPC in Barcelona – a research group specialised in hydraulic turbomachinery, energy storage and renewable energies. We offer multiple services, such as predictive maintenance, damage detection and general studies in Hydropower related topics. We use experimental and numerical techniques like CFD and FEM. Our mission is to contribute to innovation and research on renewable energies by participating in top-tier research projects like HORIZON EUROPE, projects funded by the national government, as well as international cooperation projects. We also provide technological support to industry globally, primarily in power generation units diagnosis, focused on hydropower.
Vacancies, responsibilities and requirements:
We are looking for two enthusiastic PhD candidates and/or junior engineers that would like to join our team to contribute to a project within the HORIZON EUROPE programme.
Through this position, the selected candidates will be able to carry out a PhD while working on an innovative project regarding the future of hydropower and sustainability.

Position A: CFD and structural calculation
In this position, the PhD candidate will carry out CFD and structural calculation in axial turbines.
Requirements for position A:
- Engineering degree and finished Master’s degree (or completing its last stages)
- Experience working with Ansys and CFD will be highly valued, although it is not exclusive
- Motivation and eagerness to learn and take part in the project
- Ability to work in a cooperative, multidisciplinary and international environment
- Good level of written and spoken English
Position B: Experimental measurements + data analyst + MATLAB and/or Python
In this position, the PhD candidate will carry out experimental measurements in models and prototypes, as well as learning advanced signal processing and AI tools with MATLAB and/or Python.
Requirements for position B:
- Engineering degree and finished Master’s degree (or completing its last stages)
- Interest in performing experimental tests on models and prototypes.
- Availability and motivation for travelling around the world. CDIF has an extensive cooperation network (see Collaborations).
- Motivation and eagerness to learn and take part in several research projects
- Ability to work in a cooperative, multidisciplinary environment
- Good level of English, spoken and written
